of the Meeting of Members
Held at
the Firehouse February 23, 2003 at 4 p.m.
List of
Attendees Attached
Vice
President Sandy Shapiro chaired the meeting in the absence of the President.
Sandy
Shapiro introduced Kim and Chris Pond, who own a building at the corner of
University Avenue and Windsor Street, and Eric Smith, the new crime prevention
officer for the Grove Place area.
Elta
Green reported that Grove Place had $7,039.93 in the bank as of February 12,
2003.
No
report.
Judy
Gregory reported that the Art Committee is still working on the sculpture at
Scio and East Main Streets. They are looking into a protective coating for the
sculpture and new lighting. Discussions have been started with Rochester
Institute of Technology to have students provide artwork along blank spaces on
the East End Garage. The Committee is looking for funding for this project.
Artwork for the new town homes is on hold until the residents can have input.
Myra
Buonocore promised a report at next month’s meeting

No

Robert
Keck reported that he has installed a counter on the web site so that we will
know the extent of its use.
No
report.
Lt. Tom
Belcher reported that last month’s statistics represented a spike. This month’s
statistics are down.
John
Paris noted that he would not be able to host next month’s reception and asked
for volunteers. Jim and Sue Bovay offered to host in his place.
Fred
Gregory reported that Paul Pineo and he had attended a meeting of the East End
Business association. That Association is circulating a petition concerning the
three festivals held last summer. Some businesses lose money on festival nights
and some businesses need the festivals to survive.
The
festivals were started to bring people into the East End and to acquaint them
with the businesses in the area. The festivals are now geared to younger people
with loud music and licensed drinking - which is how the festivals make money.
This
Association does not believe that we are close enough to the festival area to
have a position. Anyone with additional thoughts on the festivals is to contact
Paul Pineo.
The
owners of town home number three would like to add skylights, facing Grove
Place, to their home. Because the home is in a Preservation District, they will
need approval of the Preservation Board. A motion was made and passed approving
the owners’ request for skylights.
The
Ponds wish to add a window to a building they own at the corner of University
Avenue and Windsor Street. To do so, they need the approval of the Preservation
Board. A motion was made and passed approving the windows.
The City
Planning Commission will discuss the new zoning plan at their meeting at City
Hall a 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 24 2003.
The
minutes of the Grove Place meeting on January 19, 2003 were approved with minor
corrections.
Captain
John Tallie, Lt. Shawn Murray and fire fighter David Bundy gave the members a
tour of the firehouse. This is the only firehouse within the inner loop. The
chairman of the meeting did not get to slide down the fire pole. It had been
removed several years ago for safety reasons.
