Executive
Committee Meeting Sue Bovay’s
Present: Paul Pineo, Elta Green, Sue Bovay, Judy
Gregory, John Lovenheim
1.
President
Sue Bovay stated that the date for the GPA January meeting must be set so it
does not conflict with Super Bowl activities.
As for future general meetings, the group suggested considering changing
venues as often as possible to keep members’ interested in attending. Possible sites include the newly opened Los
Andes Restaurant, the Rochester Contemporary Art Gallery and the Downstairs
Cabaret, in addition to the YMCA. It
was felt that the success of the Dec. 9th Holiday Party at the ESM
Dormitory was indicative of the need for more social interaction among GP
residents.
2.
Treasurer
Elta Green reported there is over $9000 in our account. Recent payouts included $150 to Gloria
Weyerts for cards, $600 to the Twin Towers Relief Fund, and $200 to the YMCA’s
Invest in Youth Fund. The group felt it
would be appropriate to make a contribution to the ESM and asked John Lovenheim
to talk to Director Jim Undercoffler about this.
Additionally, Elta is collecting money from people
interested in joining the reserved GPA table for the Susan B. Anthony Luncheon
on Feb. 15th.
3.
John
announced that a Dec. 12th Executive Steering Committee meeting for
Sector V will include Sue Bovay and Paul Pineo from GPA, plus two reps from
Cornhill, Susan Robertson from ESM, Heidi Zimmer-Meyer from RDDC, and Jonathan
Davis from the YMCA. Their discussion
will include issues surrounding the $100,000 City matching grants, and zoning
changes. Paul and John felt a letter
needs to be composed on the zoning question requesting decision-makers to move
more slowly and be more responsive to interested parties so that the end result
does not inhibit or restrict downtown development.
4.
Architect
Craig Jensen has announced that the results of bids going out to potential
developers of the Gibbs/Grove townhouse project should be in by Dec. 20th.
5.
GPA
Vice Pres., Paul Pineo, will chair a nominating committee consisting of 3 to 5
members. They will choose candidates
for secretary and possibly first and second vice presidents to present to the
membership in early spring.
6.
John
remarked about the need for better coverage in the media of downtown
events. He will look into the
possibility of preparing changing slides with listings of events for the Little
Theater’s pre-film nightly slide presentation.
7.
Sue
updated the group on a number of items:
The Preservation Board approved the plans for an
elevator addition at #17 Selden.
The US Court of Appeals has made changes to the
perimeter injunction affecting demonstrations at Planned Parenthood
facilities. The buffer zone concept was
upheld, but the size reduced. The use
of megaphones will be allowed.
Residents are asked to call Federal Marshals with reports of violations,
but Sue has found this group unresponsive.
It was suggested that Rep. Louise Slaughter be called if complaints are
not dealt with.
Recent articles of interest to GPA include a
flattering account of downtown living in CITY, and reports on the progress of
Midtown.
Rochester parents of K–5 students will be able to
pick their child’s school within one of three City zones. The zones will relate to Sector boundaries.
8. Sue will ask Roz Goldman’s GPA Art
Committee to follow up on the bronze plaque which
was supposed to have been placed on Gibbs Street in memory of Anne McQuay.
The
meeting was adjourned at 9:15 AM.
Respectfully
submitted,
Judy
Gregory, Secretary
