Executive Committee Meeting                                                Myra Buonocore’s

Present:  Myra Buonocore, Paul Pineo, Elta Green, Sue Bovay, Stan Schwartzberg, John Lovenheim, Miriam Shapiro, Judy Gregory

1.                  President Sue Bovay announced that V.P. Paul Pineo will conduct the Feb. 24th GPA General Meeting at the Strong Museum in her absence.  Strong Director Rollie Adams will be the presenter and will also host the reception following.  The group was in agreement that it would not be inappropriate to make solicitation materials for the museum available to the assembled GP audience.  The committee also agreed that GPA should make a $500 contribution to the museum in honor of architect and GP neighbor, Bob Macon.

Our March 24th General Meeting will present City Forester, Ian Nadar, discussing the care of neighborhood trees. He will be asked if the GP Beautification Committee can do routine tree checks with assistance from his department.  The reception for this meeting will be hosted by the YMCA.

2.                  Treasurer Elta Green reported that the treasury balance is in excess of $8700.

3.                  John Lovenheim updated the group on Sector V activities:

The redesign of the City’s zoning has been completed and the results will be presented at a Sector V meeting on April 23rd.  Four interpretive meetings will be held prior to April 23rd, the dates of which will be announced ahead of time and posted on GPA’s website.  John will then create a presentation for the April 28th GPA General Meeting which will include various experts such as developers and architects discussing the new zoning plan.

The City will soon distribute requests for proposals to developers for the building of owner-occupied housing on Charlotte St.

The Grossadonias have donated a building and parking lot on Main St. to the Downstairs Cabaret Theater.

The Cultural Commission may assist with funds to renovate the Arch Miller sculpture on the corner of Scio and Main Sts. by the East End Garage.

Paul will follow up on gathering information needed for writing a proposal for $10,000 in grant money designated by Kodak for city sector use, to apply to safety lighting for the GP neighborhood.

A new deli called Center Stage will soon open in Eastman Place.

A presentation of the new plans for Manhattan Square Park will take place at City Hall from 5 to 8 PM, on Feb. 27th.

Roz Goldman will speak on public art at the Library’s “Tuesday Topics” series on Feb. 19th.

4.                  Paul announced that the Nominating Committee is in the process of setting the slate of officers for the upcoming GPA elections.  The names of candidates will be circulated to members, along with dues notices, two weeks prior to the April GPA Meeting.

5.                  A meeting of the Art Committee on Feb. 15th, will determine the next steps in renewing the campaign to place a plaque in honor of the McQuays on Gibbs St.

6.                  Though there are still some environmental issues to be resolved, the Gibbs/Grove housing project is advancing with the choice of a builder having been made, and financing being worked out.  The units will sell for about $350,000 and work will be started this spring once several buyers have signed on to the project.  GP residents can be helpful by making referrals when appropriate.

7.                  Sue reviewed items concerning Enhancement District issues.  Some resurfacing of Selden and Gibbs Sts. will be called for in the near future.  Brickwork replacement is still needed on area sidewalks.  Handling our own sidewalk plowing on Selden St. continues to go well, but damage from city sidewalk plows has been reported on Windsor St. Fred Gregory continues to maintain the neighborhood banners.

8.                  Sandy Shapiro has offered to check the municipal code regarding noise standards and to draw up a petition for residents to sign in hopes of deterring the screaming which results from protesters each week at the Planned Parenthood facility on University Ave.

9.                  Myra Buonocore will discuss with Beautification Chair Marilyn Klass, the possibility of putting our needs for maintaining our public garden spaces into writing so that we can determine what kind of professional help we should seek.

10.              Sue made several announcements of interest to the group of upcoming events.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 AM.

Respectfully submitted,

Judy Gregory, Secretary
