Concern
was expressed re: the trash at that end of Windsor Street. Miriam Shapiro will
be asked to speak with them.
Tom
Argust, City Commissioner of Community Development, sent a letter re: the
5/23/02 meeting of the Neighborhood Association Presidents and Sector Chairs.
The focus was the major economic development initiatives that directly impact
neighborhoods. Tom also announced that City Zoning Director, Margaret Wurstle,
had resigned to become the Director of Planning for Collier County, Florida.
Tom Lentilucci will be the new Director, effective June 8.
Tom
later reported that discussions included:
Corn Hill Landing’s apartments and
retail scheduled to start this summer;
North Clinton Avenue’s two phases
of development from Upper Falls Boulevard to Avenue D;
West Main Street’s development,
across from Anthony Square, targeting tourism and artist’s lofts;
The revitalization of Genesee
Street;
Brooks Landing with development of
a river-front hotel;
The characterization of Monroe
Avenue as “healthy.”
Paul
Pineo sent a letter from GPA 5/28/01 saying that the new City Zoning Code, only
as it applies to the Center City, is a dramatic change and may encourage
continued development in the Center City. It does, however, appear to contain
too much detail - which may discourage creative development and should be
reviewed at length by City residents before adoption. Paul further noted that
if City Council sees fit to delay further implementation of the proposed zoning
code in GPA’S part of the City, there appears to be no reason why the more
traditional remainder could not be adopted.
Paul
referred to a letter from Sector 5 sent on 6/05/02 to, then Director of Zoning,
Margaret Wurstle, voicing their concerns about the draft proposal for the
Center City. It praised the concept of zoning by design rather than use; made
suggestions to strengthen that concept; but said, in part, that zoning rules
without a vision of where the city should be in 20 years would be a waste of
time.
50th
Anniversary: Paul wrote them a letter congratulating them on their 50 years.
A Letter
of Support: Paul also sent a letter to the City supporting Rural/Metro’s
response to the City’s “Request for Proposal for Ambulance Service,” re: 911
carriers.
The
Annual Meeting Luncheon is on Thursday, June 27 at the Riverside Convention
Center. Tickets are $30 to members. Fred Gregory is a member and keeps us
posted.
GPA sent
$100 for a year’s membership and received a thank-you note, which also asked
for items and volunteers. Ed Safer, a founder, publishes a regional newsletter.
Sue
Bovay received a thank-you letter to GPA from Strong Museum for the $500 sent
in honor of Bob Macon to the Museum’s “Going Strong and Growing Stronger” fund.
