Executive Committee Meeting                                                         Myra Buonocore’s

Present:  Myra Buonocore, Paul Pineo, Elta Green, Sandy Shapiro, Sue Bovay, Judy Gregory, Diane Moonan

1.                  President Paul Pineo asked the group to establish a calendar for GPA meetings and events into the fall.  It was decided that the Executive Committee would continue to meet throughout the summer on June 11th, July 9th, and August 13th, but that there would be no general meetings called until the fall season. The annual GPA picnic will be on September 8th.  It was also decided that instead of trying to have City Forester Ian Nader, meet with the entire membership in June, it would be best to plan a smaller gathering of representatives from the Executive Committee and the Beautification Committee to discuss the tree survey done in the neighborhood last year.

In lieu of reminder cards being sent out, the GPA telephone tree will contact members regarding this Sunday’s (May 19th) General Meeting to be held at the Rochester Contemporary Gallery on East Ave.  Callers will also remind members of the second neighborhood cleanup day on Saturday, May 18th, from 9 to 12 noon.

Suggestions for presenters as general meetings resume in the fall are:  Home Properties, managers of Midtown; Ann Chantreuil or Jim Undercofler regarding the redo of the Eastman Theatre; the Costanza brothers regarding the construction of loft apartments in the Temple Building; Chris Kowalski updating the group on the newest Downstairs Cabaret venue on East Main St.;  someone to discuss the Cornhill Landing project.

2.                  Myra Buonocore reported that Beautification co-chair Kathy Parse has been able to purchase plants for the neighborhood at wholesale prices.  The committee would like to emphasize the need for additional cleanup along Gibbs St. on May 18th.  Sandy Shapiro suggested using the template he has in his possession to spray paint identifying GPA markings on the newly purchased planters placed along neighborhood streets.  Sandy has also agreed to be the keeper of the extra banners currently being stored in Fred Gregory’s garage.  Fred and Sandy will do a banner check during the May 18th cleanup event.

3.                  Treasurer Elta Green reported that $1710 has been received so far in response to dues notices.  Of that amount, $335 has been earmarked for Art and $515 for Beautification.  The responses have come from 36 individuals, one non-profit and (a record) 14 businesses.  It was decided that Sandy and Paul would make personal calls to the business members thanking them for their support.

4.                  Newly elected summer secretary, Kathleen Lynch, has decided she will not be able to fill the position.  As a result, Sandy Shapiro and Sue Bovay have volunteered to do the note taking in Judy Gregory’s absence.

5.                  The group felt that Roderick Cox Cooper, the City’s overseer of the Net Program, should be contacted regarding the absence of a GPA listing among the Net office’s Sector V members.  Additionally, Joanne Buck, the City official who has overseen the brick walk conservation in our district, will be approached regarding the insufficient efforts being made to maintain the bricks and replace them after curb and water pipe repairs have required their removal.  Myra will check with the members of the Beautification Committee to see if they could appoint someone to take charge of conservation issues facing the neighborhood and plan a walk-through of the area with a Net official.

6.                  Paul presented a first draft of a letter to Margaret Wuerstle, the City’s Director of Zoning that states the concerns raised at the last GPA General Meeting over the new zoning efforts proposed by the City.  The final draft of the letter will contain a petition for GPA members to sign that will address the need to slow down the acceptance process of the new plan so that appropriate input may be gathered, to reconsider the makeup of the overview committee, and to review the excessive restraints being placed on creative architectural building designs.

7.                  An invitation to a 50-year anniversary celebration on May 22nd, at Rural/Metro ambulance company was circulated.

8.                  Paul asked the group to consider whether or not it would be worthwhile to put together a GPA at Red Wings’ Stadium night.

9.                  Miriam Shapiro, with Sue Bovay’s help, is assisting with plans for the Landmark Society’s Coffee Tour of the GP neighborhood in June.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 AM.

Respectfully submitted,
