Thanks
to the YMCA for allowing us to hold our meeting in their facility.
Paul
Pineo.
Elta
Green reported that the Grove Place Association has $6,951.53 in the bank.
There will be a full report next month.
Judy Gregory, Wendy Undercofler and Janet Fink have joined Roz on
this committee. They are looking into funding for the sculptures at East Main
and Scio.
Rev. Linwood Garrenton reported on a meeting of the East End
Business Association with the city. The mayor stated that no neighborhood will
have more than one festival per year. The East End can have two this year but
only one in 2004.
A new membership list is available.
There is no report,
We can tell how many hits the web site receives but not how many
people are making the hits.
Foot patrols on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 5:00 - 9:00
p.m. will be increased. Jim has talked to a city contractor about installing
video cameras in the two areas where cars have been broken into.
Lt. Tom Belcher reported the crime statistics for the period of
February 19 -- March 18, 2003. Our neighborhood is the safest in the city.
A third
revised draft is available. Contact Paul with any comments.
A proof
of this brochure was passed around for the attendees to look over. We can order
500 for $550.00 or 1,000 for $600.00. We need to check with Marge Bergeson to
see how many copies she wants to use when she shows homes in this neighborhood.
A motion was made, seconded and passed to print 1000 copies and not to exceed
$600.00.
This
dinner will be held on April 25th.
Craig
Jensen reported that five of the nine townhomes have been sold. The four
remaining ones are on the back, facing Grove. Anyone interested in the
remaining townhomes needs to act now before the framing is finished. They will
have more options.
Pat
Tobin reported on the Sagamore on East development proposed for 130 East
Avenue. Craig Jensen is the architect on this project. Re/Max is the realty
group. Mr. Tobin showed us what each floor would look like. The top floor (7th)
has three penthouses with 3,300 square feet.
The
former Xerox print shop at University and Windsor will have a new tenant as of
April 1st. It is a telemarketing firm.
has two
entries at the Gallery at High Falls. Her entries are of the Grove Place
neighborhood.
The next
Grove Place Association meeting will be held on the fourth Sunday in April -
April 27th.
Myra
Buonocore, Kathy Parse and Gloria Weyerts reported on several areas that need
work to make them match the rest of the neighborhood. The city has assigned
someone from the forestry department to work with us. The city will remove dead
trees and treat and prune diseased trees. Mark Colburn will upgrade street
gardens, which includes removing weeds, composting and mulching. Forty-five
areas on Gibbs and Windsor Streets have been identified as needing work. Ten
ivy slips will be put in the gardens. This work will cost $1,500.00 but this is
a one-time expense. The fifteen planters will cost $25.00 each to be replanted.
Wilmer would be hired to do maintenance on the gardens. He will be hired in
June. Mark’s work would be finished by July 15th.
A motion
was made and passed for Mark Colburn’s contract and for Wilmer’s contract. We
will have one clean up day in the spring.
This
proposal is an alternative to the bus station at Main and Clinton. The City
paper is running an article this week about the alternative proposal and Mayor
Johnson mentioned it in his State of the City address. This proposal would cost
$5 - $7 million vs. $90 million for the transit station at Main and Clinton.
This proposal would have seating areas, an information area and retail space.
An escalator would be installed so people could use the food court on the
second floor. An existing building, Sibley’s, would be used and so buildings
would have to be demolished. The area in the Sibley building being considered
is currently vacant. This plan is compatible with current and future downtown
housing development. There arc no relocation or condemnation costs. This plan
also builds on the previously developed Main Street transit corridor. The
transit center at Main and Clinton would offer office space. There is currently
a 17% vacancy rate in this type of office space in Monroe. County. The food
courts in the Sibley Building and in Midtown Plaza are currently underused.
Today’s
reception will be held at Jim and Sue Bovay’s.
