Meeting Minutes
Attendance: 32 Members, 2 guests
Meeting Minutes: Motion made and passed to attach previous meeting minutes to the following meeting announcement email, and have those minutes approved at that meeting.
Introductions: Captain David Kaltenbach from RFD Rescue 11 Outreach
New Executive Committee Members: President, Jack Eisenberg
Vice Presidents, Bob Keck and Jan Fink
Treasurer, Rick McGrath
Secretary, Kim Pond
Welcomed Nance Goyette Duncan to the neighborhood. She lives in Windsor Lofts.
Treasurer’s Report: Current balance is $5817.90. Reminder to members that annual dues are due.
Real Estate and Development Report: 124 University Avenue has been purchased by Chris (Monroe Litho Renovation) Pape’s son Bill. Extensive rehab is underway. Renovations appear to be near completion at 143-145 University. It consists of 2 offices, no news as to who the tenants will be. There is one unit at Symphony Terrace for sale. The former Kirkpatrick’s has been purchased by the owner of Richmond’s and will become the East End Tavern. They have secured parking and hope to open in November.
Banners: The banners are complete and ready to be hung. The existing ones appear to be wearing well. Thanks to John Lovenheim for ordering.
Security/Safety: Barbara Wager has attended 3 recent meetings. There have been no reports of serious crime in our neighborhood, although she has had several outdoor items stolen from her back yard and several of the neighborhood pots were overturned early this month. Thanks to Jim Martin, Bob Keck and Mike Powers for “righting” them.
Beautification/Artwork: Barbara Wager thanked the “Water Boys” for their efforts this summer keeping the flower pots watered. She also thanked Terry McEntee (sp) from the city who supplied dirt along Carpenter alley that allowed wild flowers to be planted, she also delivered flowering bulbs and bricks to replace or repair several areas that were in need of attention. Barbara also thanked Bob Keck for his donation of bricks and Jim Martin for his beautiful repair work. Nancy Martin reported that the sculpture that was purchased is complete and will be installed on the University Avenue side of their home this week or next.
Announcements/Concerns:
Eugene Van Voorhis met with David Gantt regarding the possibility of the north portion of the inner loop being filled in. Mr. Gantt is very much in favor of this. After much discussion it was decided there was more that we don’t know than we do. Eugene would like to step back from this but feels we should be proactive rather than reactive on this issue. He suggested a vote on the issue but Jack would like more information. It will be a topic of discussion at next month’s meeting.
Focus Pregnancy Center (FPC) has applied to the Preservation Board to install an awning across the width of their building. There was a vote and the majority opposed their request. Kim Russell drafted a petition stating our opposition. It was passed around and signed to be submitted to the Preservation Board. Barbara Wager raised discussion around the rezoning that took place a couple of years ago and whether the FPC meets the criteria. Bob and Pam DiPaola spoke of their frustrated attempts to work with FPC to resolve issues regarding the illegal parking of cars around the neighborhood and particularly in front of their driveway, the littering, and general lack of understanding as to what it takes to be a good neighbor.
The Casino is no longer an issue.
Group Liability Insurance was discussed and needs to be reviewed.
Post meeting receptions were discussed, no resolution, more discussion to follow. Please share your thoughts. Reception after this meeting was held at Shui Asian Fusion on University Avenue. Vern Hanson and Rick McGrath will make arrangements for the Holiday Party
Respectfully Submitted, Kim Pond Secretary
